Caring for Your Website

Once your website is up and running, it’s easy to forget about it. While a good design is attractive, it’s the content and user experience that matters. Search engines actually have a way of rating the quality of content on websites. Among the reasons for this is to help ensure that users who take the time to search for particular terms don’t receive a barrage of irrelevant search results. So to care for your website after it’s published, it’s important to remember three main things:

  1. Domain Name: Note where you purchased your domain name, when you purchased it, and when it’s time to renew it. Set a reminder so the expiration date doesn’t sneak up on you. If your domain name expires, it can be purchased by someone else and once that happens it can be hard to get it back! Register or Renew a Domain Name >>
  2. Hosting: This is the server space required for your website to be visible on the worldwide web. Your website will need reliable hosting so it doesn’t experience downtime. There’s nothing more frustrating than visiting a website that returns an error message instead of content. Once your website is hosted, it will need to have the space for regular file backups. 3. Content: Don’t forget to keep fresh, unique content on your website. The best way to do this is by integrating a blog. Regularly updating the content on your website not only helps your site visitors, but optimizes your website in search engine results. In other words, the more relevant and up-to-date your content, the more people will be able to find it when they perform a keyword search. Stagnant websites that aren’t updated regularly with content are moved to the bottom of the list in search results.
